University of Utah Kahlert Village
Salt Lake City, UT
The University of Utah Kahlert Village is the newest residential community on campus, home to approximately 990 first-year students. It marks the Southeast gateway to campus, and the urban mixed-use design includes residential, dining, study, and community spaces that perfectly match the overall campus design. The three, five-story wings, make up four themed communities to help students deepen their engagement on campus. Each wing theme includes a living/learning overlay - Health & Wellness, STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math), and Community Engagement. The plan also consists of a 36,000 SF café and restaurant that seats 650 people and includes 24-hour community spaces, a multipurpose classroom, a study area, and an outdoor courtyard. The university housing design helps promote a living and learning community model of Collegiate Success, Personal Development, Civic Engagement, and a Culture of Belonging.
