Initially built in five phases between 1901-1910, the Madeline Choir School is listed on the Salt Lake Historical Registry—seismic upgrades to comply with building codes and extensive renovation to better serve the students and faculty. Because of the building’s historical significance, the project had to meet the requirements of Salt Lake City’s Landmark Commission. The renovation also included adding a new library and remodeling the existing space to include more classrooms. Center coring techniques were used for the seismic upgrade to preserve both faces of the historic walls.
